Elizabeth Adams, M.S., CCC-SLP

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) at Hunters Creek Elementary strengthens communication skills of students who need remediation in areas of articulation/phonology, fluency, voice, language and pragmatic skills.

Speech-Language Pathologists work with children who have communication impairments that affect their success in academic activities and social interactions.

The duties of a Speech-Language Pathologist include, but are not limited to, the following:

·        Identifying and evaluating students with suspected speech, language, and related disorders

·        Planning and conducting activities to improve a student’s speaking, listening, and other language skills

·        Monitoring and documenting the effectiveness of treatment and student progress

·        Collaborating with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other professionals in understanding and meeting a student’s speech, language, and academic needs

·        Writing reports and completing other required paperwork

·        Educating parents, teachers, and administrators about communication development and disorders

Caseload considerations include:

·        Severity of the speech or language impairment

·        Effect of the problem on a student’s educational performance and  social skills

·        Developmental stage of the problem

·        Relationship of the impairment to other conditions (i.e., hearing loss, mental retardation, learning disabilities, physical or other health impairments)

·        Type of service: individual (specialized service), small group (specialized service), classroom-based (support facilitation), consultation, or various combinations of these therapy models
