Fifth
Grade Philosophy Fifth graders at Hunters Creek Elementary are inspired to be creative in their multi-step problem solving and higher order thinking skills in both social and academic situations. Students are viewed as independent learners preparing for the changes and challenges of middle school and beyond. As teachers, we believe all students can learn and that knowledge is best facilitated through hands-on discovery. Learners are encouraged to meet daily responsibilities and think for themselves through guided self-discipline strategies.
Our curriculum is enriched by various motivating civic, scientific,
cultural arts and literary programs. All fifth graders participate in a
drug awareness program known as D.A.R.E. Fifth grade opportunities
include responsibilities for morning announcements as well as
leadership roles in Safety Patrol and Leadership Council. Our
interdisciplinary projects include a three-week
study of the Renaissance as part of the school wide Winds of Time unit.
Fifth graders also research and present an event to the school called
History Fair which gives younger students an opportunity to take a tour
of American history.
