First Grade

First graders at Hunters Creek Elementary are encouraged to be creative in their thinking and problem solving in academic and social situations. Students and teachers are seen as life long learners who are preparing for the changes and challenges of the future. Students learn through experience and discovery, using tools and strategies that enable them to perceive, perform and produce. The core curriculum: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies are enhanced by Fine Arts, Health/Fitness and Technology. These subjects are often integrated to provide depth in knowledge acquisition, enriched learning and opportunities to teach using the Multiple Intelligence theory. The curriculum is student centered. Students utilize a vast array of manipulatives and investigations in all subjects. We are committed to teach children so that they are challenged and successful.
